☻☻Lip Monthly Unboxing July 2014 box☻☻

Hello!

This is my first subscription box. The company did not send me this box and I'm not affiliated with them at all.

That being said I did get the summer deal for the box (use the code "SUMMERLIPS" while checking out to get half off your first box!)

Also, even though I was already planning on making an unboxing video for this box (and already decided to purchase it) inside the box on the card it says "Do a video review - get a free extra product" Win-Win for me! So, in my next box I'll be getting a free item! I'm super excited about that. lol

So, a little about this box!

Lip Monthly
$10 a box

The website specifically says "2-3 full sized products, and 2-3 sample products"
I got 4 lip products and a random one so I think that is pretty accurate.

On the card here it says:

"Dear Lip Monthly Subscriber,
Hopefully you're enjoying your summer!
This month we're delivering you a combination of more well known brands along with a few niche brands that you may have not heard of :) We've also tried to mix up the colors a bit ;)
We'll be launching our Lip Shop in the next few weeks so you can purchase these items after trying them out! Also - next month we're going to begin theming the box in a very unique way!
Till Next Month
Team Lip Monthly
XoXo"

The products I received are

1. Revlon Color Burst Lip Gloss in the color 044 "Sunbaked"
Buy online at www.revlon.com for $6.99

Sunbaked

2. City Color Cosmetics Lip Balm in the color "Bright Pink"
Buy online at www.citycolorcosmetics.com for $2.99

 Bright Pink

3. City Color Cosmetics Lip Lush Luscious Lip Crayon in the color "Wine"
I was disappointed in this because the twist at the bottom doesn't work. So, I'm not going to be able to use it at all after it gets worn down.
UPDATE: I took this on vacation with me and it started working! The pressure? The heat? Who knows but it was a STANDOUT while on vacation. I updated the picture of me wearing it while on vacay.
Buy online at www.citycolorcosmetics.com for $2.99

Lip Luscious Lip Crayon "Wine"

4. Appeal Cosmetics in the color "Red Light District"
This product is no longer on their website or not yet on the website. I'm not 100% sure. Either way the card says that is retails for $22 but.. I'm not sure from where.
Buy online at www.appealcosmetics.com for $22

 red light district

5. The monthly mix up item for this month of the
John Frieda Straight Fixation Smoothing Creme 1.5oz
This is on the John Frieda website but when I click on the purchase link it says the page is down.
I looked around and this same product can be purchased from Overstock.com for $2.99

That is a box value of $37.96!!!!

I will for SURE be signing on for more months with this box. Hopefully, its this good every month. I'm also looking forward to when they theme the boxes! How fun. :D

Okay, so if you want to sign up you can. You don't HAVE to. If you do you can also use my referral code

Medication and Food (what not to mix)

Medication and Food (what not to mix)

1. Apple Juice and Allergy medication
I take Allegra and I can't drink acidic (orange/grapefruit) juice within 4 hours of taking one. I've read that mixing the two negates the Allegra! I ADORE grapefruit juice. I got by this by taking my pill at night before bed! Yes, I literally drink Grapefruit juice that often.

2. Limes and Cough Medicine
Something in acidic fruits like limes, grapefruits, and some oranges might block an enzyme that breaks down the cough suppressant Dextromethorphan (amount others! Statins included.)

3. Dairy products and antibiotics
(Fun fact: I'm allergic to Penacillien)
Some antibiotics, including Cipro, will bind to the calcium and iron in dairy products. When this happens it blocks the absorption of the antibiotics.

4. Chocolate and Ritalin
The stimulant in chocolate, Theobromine, combines with the Simulants in Ritalin medication can cause seizures. Caffeine is also a risk.

5. Smoked meat and antidepressants
If certain antidepressants (check with your doctor) are combined with the Amino acid Tyramine could cause dangerous spikes in blood pressure. You might have to steer clear of smoked salmon and summer sausage!

6. Vitamin k and Warfarin
Warfarin is a blood-thinner that prevents clotting. People who take this medication should regulate their intake of the vitamin k. Leafy greens, broccoli, and cinnamon all have large amounts of vitamin k in them. Combining these two could potentially cause liver damage.

7. Alcohol and acetaminophen
Our bodies use the same enzyme to break down alcohol as it does your tylenol. Make sure to leave 6 hours in-between imbibing and taking any acetaminophen (this includes cold medicines) Taking this two together can contribute to kidney and liver disease.

NYC Applelicious Glossy Lip Balm Review

I was search for a tinted balm like Babylips though (I'm always searching....) and I found

NYC Appleicious Glossy Lip Balm $2.99 on their website or $2.74 at Walmart.

1. It has beautiful colors (10 of them!)

2. It is sheer-ish
3. It isn't sticky
4. It moisturizes
5. lips feel softer
6. Doesn't solidify on lips when cold

Key ingredients are Shea butter, Jojoba, and Avocado oil!

These are the two I have. Apple Blossom on the left and Applelicious Pink on the right. Applelicious Pink is my favorite but I do love the Apple Blossom color. It seems like the Apple Blossom is more sheer than the Applelicious Pink.

The apple scent?
It doesn't smell bad but it isn't exactly my favorite scent. I think it smells like a sweet apple mixed with that lipstick smell. I don't notice the smell on my lips though after a bit so it isn't a con for me. Oddly enough the Applelicious Pink one smells more like apple than the Apple Blossom does. They all have this center of balm that is shaped like apple! They look a little curved because I've used them!

I'm basically in love with this product and I plan on buying more of the colors. The next one I buy will be Big Apple Red for sure then perhaps garnet gala or apple plum pie. One of those two. Caramel apple... looks good too though. I DONT KNOWWWW the CHOICESS. Lucky they are only $2.74 at Walmart.

This is my lips without any product.

This is my lips with Applelicious Pink (My favorite)

This is my lips with Apple Blossom

Babylips
I hate it. I'm not sure why it is so popular. Is it my lips? When I put Babylips on it feels like.. tacky goop mess that doesn't soak in and if the temperature drops even a whit it turns completely solid on my lips. UGH. If you love Babylips please let me know your wonderful experience and if I just bought a faulty batch!

Year Long Scarf - Update! 6 Months

I've had a daily crochet project going since January 1st that  you may or may not remember.

Here is a link to that post!

Basically, every day from January 1st 2014 to December 31st 2014 I'll be crocheting a line of crochet onto a piece.

I do this in order to create a "scarf" that represents this year. Each day is represented by the color of the sky!

White for overcast (let's face it people.. I used a lot of this and we're only 6 months in. I live in the Pacific Northwest!)

Light blue for partly cloudy

Blue for BLUEBLUEBLUE skies!

Black for thunderstorms/big DARK clouds

Today I'm officially 6 months into this "scarf"

I keep referring to it as a "scarf" because I won't be actually wearing this when I'm done. I'm going to hang it up!

This is a picture of it hung up.

Here is another picture with the months represented (click to see enlarged). I did not do an exact count but this is an approximation. You'll notice in Feb there are different stitched (puff/chain)

Puff stitches (which there are two rows in Feb) represent SNOW! The loose chain that is in the middle represents sleet.

How great is the large chunk of white in April? April showers..... :D

I love this project so far. I don't keep a lot of things because of sentimentality but this will be one I think.

Basically while outside each day I make note of the sky and write it down in my planner. At the end of the week (Sundays) I do all the rows and once a month I take it out and sew in all the tails. I do NOT want to get to December and have to sew in 365 tails. No thank you!

What do you think of my 2014 weather scarf? I was thinking of doing one with emotions. Red for anger, blue for sad.. etc. That would be slightly therapeutic don't you think? Help us acknowledge our feelings on a daily basis.

Thank you SO much for following along!
